Boating Requirements – Reminders

published: April 18th, 2026 by in Uncategorized

Boating Safety Education Certificates are required to operate a personal watercraft (regardless of age) and for persons born on or after January 1, 1982, to operate boats powered by motors greater than 25 horsepower. Any operator that is required to have a Boating Safety Education Certificate must carry the certificate with them while operating a boat per PA law. The certification card never expires, and the course can be taken online or in person.

Persons 11 years of age or younger may NOT operate a PWC. Persons 12 through 15 years of age may NOT operate with any passengers on board 15 years of age or younger or rent a PWC.

Each individual that will be operating a personal watercraft / boats powered by motors greater than 25 horsepower will be required to show their boater’s safety certification at the boat launch in order to receive their boater’s wristband this summer.

Masthope reserves the right to enforce all boating rules (in accordance with applicable Pennsylvania law) as outlined in our Community Rules and Regulations. These regulations apply in full at the community boat launch, which provides access to the Westcolang Lake. Failure to comply with boating rules may result in restricted access to the boat launch. All such measures are in place to ensure the safety and well-being of the community.
